Does anyone know of any programs other than Word which have more of a variety of 3D shapes to choose from? We are looking for different types of pyramids and prisms and the ones offered in Word and Photodraw (autoshapes tools) are somewhat limited. - Naomi Sordello and Lyn Blomeley

If you have Inspirations you can find some very good 3D shapes (not many) in the Maths Geometry library. Click on the shape, resize it then copy and paste it into the document you want. Inspirations is an excellent program to create student worksheets also. Thanks Rod.

Have you tried using word online? Taking photos of objects and inserting them is something students loveto do to. Also try soem of the objects availble through smartboard applications - digilearn etc

Did you know that 2-d autoshapes can be given a 3-d effect using the drawing toolbar option "3-d style". In word 2003 click the box button on the right had side of the drawing toolbar. You can also add colour or gradient to make them look more interesting!

I discovered the 3D effect, but I wanted to expand the choices, I have introduced the 3D effect to my class and they have been using this. I have found a power point presentation very similiar to what I wanted to set up which had some great 3D solids on it, I have cheated and used some of these to expand my list. My grade are currently working on creating apage each on one shape that they have to put a shape in, then copy it and answer the questions. They also have to create a net for the solid from 2D shapes. They are using skills we developed using word, including moving parts back and forward and grouping of objects. I have had a very engaged group of children using this knowledge I am gaining.

Hi Lyn - this is an excellent example of learning with your students. If you have a worksheet or learning object please send it to me(or your coach) so it can be loaded here. Well done
